Editorial: CFS media policy is a disservice to students

To deny, at the last moment, the one local staff member representing the largest media organization covering student issues in Canada has damaged the relationship between the organizations and left students in Canada without an unbiased insight into the operations of the largest student group in Canada running off students’ funds.

    Not all who skip out on post-secondary are missing out

    The thing I’ve despised the most over the last few years in watching student movements is the complete lack of respect for opposing views that sometimes emerges. Lip service is paid to the value of debate and discussion, but all too often those pushing for a cause do so from a position of already being right, and if they could only educate you, you’d be compelled to agree with them.

    Pulling out from UN Drought convention extremely childish

    In a move which seems both counter-intuitive and counterproductive, the Harper government has withdrawn from the Desertification Convention, decreasing the already noticeably diminished presence of Canadians on the largest multi-national governing body in international relations today.

    Voting isn’t the democratic act it’s cracked up to be

    Representative democracy assumes that the state has a reasonable amount of control over its social and economic destiny. However, capitalism has been so invasive that it operates regardless of borders and political boundaries.
